Wooden Magic Wine Bottle HolderIn one of my previous blog posts, I had written about illusive magic chain wine bottle holder. It has taken much attention because it shows the beauty of mathematics and physics.

Now, I have found a nice page which clearly explains how you can produce it from wood at home easily instead of chain version.

You will just need a piece of wood (preferably pine) 27 cm long, 10 cm wide and 2 cm thick. Cutting, drilling process and the explanation on the center of mass at the original site. Read more here.

  1. If I remember right the law of tipping over, ok Im sure it is not the real name.
Goes something like this: A object will topple over when an imaginary vertical line drawn through an objects center of mass moves outside of it’s base or bottom support. That is why the center of mass of the bottle has to be exactly over the center of the wood that touches the table.

  2. Now that my belly protrudes beyond the tips of my toes The Law of Tipping Over can explain why I have staying upright after drinking too much wine. It’s simple physics. Eureka!
