We all know about the magnetic field experiment which shows how some particles like graphite inside the pencil can be used to make visible magnetic lines. It is surely a boring stuff if you are over 10 years old.

However, I am sure that many people didn’t hear about ferrofluids which show amazing behaviors which are important both scientifically and visually. The image on the left better talks about the beauty of ferrofluids. Let’s understand what ferrofluid is without going scientific.

Ferrofluids are mixtures of organic solvents and ferromagnetic particles in essence. In normal conditions, if we mix Iron-oxide particles in oil (organic solvent) and bring near to a magnet bar, all iron-oxide particles would be running to magnet bar and piling there without any beauty.

But in the case of ferrofluids, the iron-oxide particles can not be pulled easily by magnets. There are other nanoscale elements called as surfactants which prevent this happening. You can think them as particles in the middle of oil and iron-oxide, thus behaving like a connecting force. So, when a magnet approaches to a special ferrofluid, it would not only affect magnetic particles but also oil attached on nanoscale grade to these particles, leaving us incredibly aesthetic geometrical ferrofluid shapes.

One of the most famous applications on art is ferrofluid sculptures. Here is the ferrofluid sculpture video of a Japanese artist, named as Morpho Towers.

Ferrofluid Toys & Science Kits
There are a few nice ferrofluid kits at Amazon to experience this behavior at home. Suitable for children (who can understand that it is not for drinking) as an education material as well.

Today, I was making link corrections on some old gadget articles including Metal Pen which never runs out! While browsing at Grand Illusions website where this amazing pen is sold, I have noticed another scientifically explained wonder which I didn’t hear about before.

Well, when we ’see’ something, our view of the world has been processed by our brain. And our brain ‘knows’ that a face is convex, not concave, so that is the way we see it. When we move, the face does not move in the way that a convex face would move, so our brain comes up with a different explanation, and we see the face move, following us wherever we go! Not the following photo, you should watch the video below.

This illusion is called as Hollow-Face Illusion. After some further search, I have learned that only schizophrenic people are not fooled with this trick because their eyes don’t believe in what brain knows automatically about faces. If you check the video below you will see that we perceive as if the mask face is clearly following us. Cool, isn’t it?

I had written about Einstein’s Brain Journey on my other blog as well some day ago. I guess, his story after death is interesting enough as well.

After posting some articles to make our world a better place using natural and green material, here comes a shocker for my readers. If disturbing your guests with these creepy gadgets is not enough, try this bloody woolen carpet. At the first sight, I thought it is a poor fat cat. No, in original Dutch design site, it is said that it is a car-flattened fox.

Flexible Foam 3D Display touchscreen

Review DVD players ratings and compare which player unit suits your needs.

Below you will find one of the best innovative gadget videos I have seen after the introduction of Microsoft Touchwall, Surface and iPhone touchscreen. You can press this foam screen as if you push your fingers deep into a pillow. And the result is; the objects on the screen will respond to your actions. They will change into other 3D forms. Even if you watch the video further, you will see that corresponding sound also changes according to movements of objects. Overall, this vubx article is something cool you would like to send your friend to tell that “I have another proof on what we will see in touchscreen technology in 10 years” :)

The robot research laboratory at Chonnam National University has developed a clever robotic plant which can do the same key plant functions like oxygen-producing, humidifying, aroma-emitting, and kinetic functions.

The robot plant is 130 cm tall and 40 cm in diameter and consists of a pot, a stem, and five buds of a flower reminiscent of a rose of Sharon. A national flower of South Korea.

They have put also several motion sensors to make the plant more entertaining. If someone approaches to it, the plant flower buds will go full bloom and the stem will bend towards to the person. The same is valid for sound and light inputs as well for example music or room light.

Actually, there are American and Japanese toys similar to this robot plant, but it is currently accepted as the most advanced one.

Hanging Noose Lamp is Terrible
If you want to remind yourself a terrible part of human history every day in your living room (oh not the bedroom please), this disturbing cord gadget is a perfect choice. It will also help the owner develop a well formed paranoia by time. I just don’t remember the writer, but I had read a quite effective horror story years ago about a ghost judge haunting in his old house and murdering the people who stays there with the noose. So, this 4750 € fantasy will introduce the lucky buyer possibly several ghosts in this monotonous life as well. Dare to buy at Petites ! Productions or DIY with an illuminated cord for $100 bucks at most. :)

See my other guest-terrifier gadgets collection post if further interested in such disturbing things.

I had written about the only swimming guitar in the world in my previous post. This time, I will introduce you my latest action gadget discovery. Walking house ! This house was built in Denmark by a team of engineers to give an idea about an alternative eco-lifestyle. It is written in the official walking house website that there are solar panels and little windmills to collect energy from the natural environment. It can collect the rain water and there is a toilet system as well.

Walking House

This 6 legged hydrological living form was inspired by the traditional nomadic culture of Romanis. There is a crazy idea as well we should note. You can establish a walking village with thousands of walking houses, in theory.

I don’t know why but the funny idea of Aussie singer/guitarist Josh Pyke reminded me another unique idea of one of my friends years ago. Playing a really giant bass guitar with such strings like 10 centimeter diameter thickness. You just grab the string yeah hugging it and release the strings with your arms but not your fingers. The result is the total explosion of windows in the district because of the extreme dB. And after years, you become the master of playing giant bass guitars bla bla bla.

Guitar Boat of Josh Pyke

Anyway, as you see in this photo, this is just cool and how full of emotion the singer is. The boat was used in his music video “Make me happy” but my search on youtube didn’t reveal it. Maybe, next week to try again?

Who will manufacture a guitar plane which really flies and carries passangers preferably for musicians like Paco de Lucia, Eric Clapton, Steve Vai or Andrew Latimer?

Horror GadgetsIt is a proven fact by Swiss psychologists that human souls are tend to be attracted by the things we fear most. (Ok, I admit that such pseudo-science claim is just a common hi-tech Turkish tradition we keep saying in our daily life)

Here is the step by step horror/goth gadget guide to freak out innocent guests (or at least zlorting a dark sarcastic taste for those who are not prepared) and entertain in this short life as much as the hell hounds do in flames.

1) Welcome your guest in front of the garden.

Be sure that you have a Garden Zombie there for the initial effect. Since your neighbors already are not talking to you anymore, you should not let your unique visitor escape. Wearing this Wrist Knife will boost the total atmosphere to a certain degree. Trust me. Keep a Burzum song alive from your open windows at the same time using the skull speakers.

2) In your living room.

Invite your guest with a honest smile to sit to Shocker Electric chair for some resting before the supper. Gothic Dragon Throne is a perfect choice for your place to tell who the master is at this home beforehand.

3) Bloody Supper.

Giving real blood to your guest in a Lord Byron Skull Goblet is not suggested also by several Swiss therapists. Use red wine instead. See these perfect antiques cutlery from Germany as well.German Antiques Cutlary

4) Shower time and sleeping

Your guest will like never forget this bloody shower for life. Tell that Mr. Alfred Hitchcock visits you time to time to discuss about his latest cinema projects.

North Norwegians says that keeping such a gloomy mirror at home always brings luck and wisdom to the owner in life.

Have a nice full moon day! Ashes to ashes, gadgets to gadgets !

Professor Zihni SinirProfessor Zihni Sinir (Nerved Mind in English?) is the creation of caricaturist (now also designer) Irfan Sayar which continues to be published since 1977. It is a showcase of very practical, curious and obviously humorous imaginary professor.

Irfan Sayar in latest years opened a workshop in Istanbul, Turkey where he gives both industrial and handmade life to some of his caricatures. I have tried to translate them with my poor English level. Anyway, I hope you enjoy them.
